Vaishno Devi Tour
2 Nights/3 days
Overview
Vaishno Devi is a prominent pilgrimage site situated in the Trikuta Mountains in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi, this shrine is visited by millions of devotees annually. The 3-day, 2-night tour provides a perfect blend of spiritual rejuvenation, trekking, and sightseeing. The trip takes you from the base town of Katra to the sacred shrine, where you’ll experience divine blessings, stunning mountain views, and the unique spiritual atmosphere. The journey involves a moderate trek, scenic landscapes, temple visits, and time for relaxation. The experience offers an opportunity for both physical exertion and inner peace.
Day 1. Arrival at Katra & Trek to Vaishno Devi Shrine
Morning: Arrive in Katra, the base town for Vaishno Devi. Katra is well-connected via road and rail from Jammu. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in Katra for check-in. After freshening up, you can enjoy a quick breakfast at your hotel.
Afternoon: Start your journey towards the Vaishno Devi shrine. The 12-kilometer trek from Katra to the Bhavan (the temple complex) takes around 6-8 hours, depending on your pace. You can walk at your own comfort level or opt for alternative modes of transportation like pony rides or palkis (palanquins). The trail offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys, making the journey both spiritually enriching and physically rewarding.
Evening: Upon reaching the Bhavan, check in at one of the hotels or guesthouses nearby. After a short rest, head to the Vaishno Devi temple for darshan (worship). The evening aarti is a particularly mesmerizing experience. After the darshan, return to your accommodation for a good night’s rest.
Day 2. Early Morning Darshan & Return to Katra
Early Morning: Wake up early for the first morning aarti at the Vaishno Devi temple. The morning darshan is an uplifting experience, as the temple is dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi in the forms of Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati, and Mahakali. The divine energy at this time is especially palpable, with the temple reverberating with chants and prayers.
Late Morning: After darshan, you can visit nearby temples, including the Bhairon Baba Temple, which is located at a higher altitude, around 3 kilometers from the Bhavan. Bhairon Baba is believed to be the guardian deity of the Vaishno Devi shrine. The view from the top is mesmerizing and offers a great photo opportunity.
Afternoon: Post lunch at the Bhavan, start your descent back to Katra. The descent is generally quicker and can take around 4-5 hours, though you can take a pony or use the available transport options. You can also rest along the way at various points to refresh yourself.
Evening: Once you return to Katra, check into your hotel. You can spend the evening at leisure, exploring the town, visiting the local markets, and shopping for religious souvenirs like prasad, woolens, and Kashmiri handicrafts. Katra has a vibrant atmosphere, especially in the evenings when pilgrims from around the world gather here.
Day 3. Local Exploration & Departure
Morning: After breakfast, take some time to relax and explore Katra at your own pace. You can visit the Raghunath Temple, another important religious site in Katra, or just enjoy the peaceful surroundings of this pilgrim town. If time allows, you can take a short trip to the nearby town of Jammu to explore places like the Ranbireshwar Temple, Jammu Fort, or the Mubarak Mandi Palace.
Afternoon: Check out from your hotel in Katra and head to the Jammu railway station or airport for your onward journey. If you have some free time, you can shop for additional souvenirs or relax before your departure.
