Vaishno Devi Tour with Shivkhori
3 Nights/4 days
Overview
This 4-day spiritual journey combines two of Jammu & Kashmir's most revered pilgrimage sites – Vaishno Devi and Shivkhori. Vaishno Devi, nestled in the Trikuta Mountains, is one of the most visited shrines in India, where millions of devotees come every year to seek blessings. The second leg of the journey takes you to Shivkhori, a cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, known for its natural shivlinga and divine atmosphere. Together, these sites offer a profound spiritual experience set against the majestic backdrop of the Himalayan range. The first two days will be spent in Katra, with a visit to Vaishno Devi, while the third day is dedicated to the lesser-known, serene Shivkhori temple. The tour wraps up with a day of relaxation and sightseeing in Jammu before departure.
Day 1. Arrival in Katra & Vaishno Devi Darshan
Morning: Arrive in Katra, the base town for Vaishno Devi. After checking into your hotel, freshen up and relax. Katra is the starting point for the holy pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi.
Afternoon: Begin your trek to the Vaishno Devi shrine. The temple is located about 12 kilometers uphill from Katra. The journey can be made on foot, or by hiring ponies or palkis (palanquins) if desired. En route, stop at significant places such as Ardh Kuwari (a holy cave) and other temples.
Evening: Reach the Vaishno Devi shrine, located inside a cave at an altitude of 5,200 feet. Pay your respects to Mata Vaishno Devi, and take time to appreciate the tranquil and sacred environment. You can visit Bhairon Baba’s temple, located a few kilometers further, for additional blessings.
Night: Return to Katra and stay overnight in your hotel.
Day 2. Explore Vaishno Devi & Return to Katra
Morning: After breakfast, begin your descent back to Katra. The morning trek offers a more peaceful atmosphere and a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.
Afternoon: Upon returning to Katra, rest and relax at your hotel. If you're up for it, explore the local markets that offer Kashmiri handicrafts, woolen garments, and local sweets. You can also visit the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board's complex for more information on the temple and its history.
Evening: Spend the evening at leisure, either relaxing in your hotel or exploring nearby temples. If you wish, you can take a short trip to explore the scenic views around Katra.
Night: Overnight stay in Katra.
Day 3. Katra to Shivkhori
Morning: After breakfast, check out of your hotel in Katra and head toward Shivkhori, which is about 70 km from Katra. The drive to Shivkhori takes around 2 to 3 hours, offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Afternoon: Arrive in Shivkhori and check in at your hotel. Shivkhori is famous for its cave temple, which houses a naturally formed Shivlinga. The temple is located in a beautiful cave and is one of the less crowded pilgrimage spots, providing a peaceful environment for devotees.
After reaching Shivkhori, take the short trek (about 1 km) to the temple. The cave is adorned with various stalactites and stalagmites formations, and the sight of the Shivlinga is truly awe-inspiring. The entire area is filled with divine energy and a serene atmosphere that is perfect for reflection and prayer.
Evening: After the darshan, return to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure. You can explore the nearby local markets and enjoy the quiet surroundings of the village.
Night: Overnight stay in Shivkhori.
Day 4. Shivkhori to Jammu & Departure
Morning: After breakfast, check out from your hotel and begin your journey to Jammu (about 80 km from Shivkhori). You can take a scenic drive to Jammu and spend the rest of the day exploring the city's attractions.
Afternoon: In Jammu, visit the Raghunath Temple, Ranbireshwar Temple, and the Mubarak Mandi Palace. These sites reflect the cultural and spiritual richness of the region. You can also explore the local markets for souvenirs and handicrafts.
