Overview

Chandigarh, often referred to as the "City Beautiful," is a modern and meticulously planned city located at the foothills of the Shivalik range. Known for its stunning architecture, lush gardens, and a blend of urban and natural beauty, Chandigarh is a perfect destination for a short getaway. This 2 Days / 1 Night itinerary takes you through the city's best attractions, showcasing its vibrant culture, tranquil parks, and impressive architectural landmarks. Chandigarh is a city designed by the renowned architect Pierre Jeanneret and famous architect Le Corbusier. It boasts wide avenues, well-maintained gardens, and stunning public buildings. During your visit, you’ll explore Sukhna Lake, a man-made reservoir perfect for boating and a peaceful retreat; Rock Garden, an innovative art garden made from industrial waste; and Rose Garden, one of Asia's largest rose gardens with thousands of varieties of roses. The Elante Mall and the Sector 17 Plaza will allow you to experience the city's modern commercial charm, while the Punjab University Campus and the Open Hand Monument showcase the city's historical and architectural heritage. This 2-day trip gives you a balanced experience of Chandigarh's natural beauty, architectural excellence, and cultural vibrancy, making it a great option for a quick city break.

Day 1. Arrival in Chandigarh – Local Sightseeing.

Arrive in Chandigarh in the morning or early afternoon and check in to your hotel. Begin your sightseeing with a visit to Sukhna Lake, a serene man-made lake where you can enjoy a boat ride or simply walk along the promenade, taking in the views of the surrounding hills. Afterward, head to the Rock Garden, one of the city's most unique attractions. This innovative garden is made entirely from industrial and household waste, with sculptures and pathways that will leave you amazed. Continue your day by visiting the Rose Garden, Asia’s largest rose garden, home to over 1,600 varieties of roses, along with fountains and medicinal plants. If time permits, explore Sector 17 Plaza, a bustling commercial hub where you can shop for local handicrafts and souvenirs. Enjoy a traditional dinner at a local restaurant, sampling Punjabi cuisine, and return to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2. Chandigarh – More Sightseeing & Departure.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and head for a visit to the Punjab University Campus. The campus is known for its modernist architecture and is home to several iconic buildings, including the Student Centre and the Gandhi Bhawan. Next, visit the Open Hand Monument, an iconic symbol of Chandigarh’s identity, designed by Le Corbusier. It represents the city's ideals of peace and unity, with an open hand representing the concept of "open to give and open to receive." If time allows, you can visit the Chandigarh Haat or the Elante Mall for some last-minute shopping. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a relaxing stroll in Zakir Hussain Rose Garden or explore more local markets. Depending on your departure time, you can head back to your onward journey, filled with the memories of a vibrant and relaxing experience in Chandigarh.
